The Learning Experience

September 1st, 2024

In the late morning, I picked up my friend Aidan after packing the car with camping gear. We headed our way to West Virginia to hike up and see a beautiful view and spend the night underneath the trees. Around dinner time, we headed back down to the car to grab some banger dinner, in town. We went back to the trailhead to set up our tent. After a few hours, we fell asleep, but soon disrupted by the rain at 1am. We booked it back to the car, where we drove to sheetz to hang there for about an hour. After sleeping in the car, we went to get our wet camping equipment. On our way home we stopped at this café with delicious breakfast. Then, we arrived home and immediately showered.

The hike up was pretty nice and breezy. There was an occasionally drizzle of rain, but when we arrived at the summit it was incredible. The sky was blue with fluffy clouds. The view looked out into other mountains surrounding us, I would absolutely hike this again to witness the sunrise at the top.

The way down, was a lot simpler.

We ate dinner at this Italian place with an amazing menu. It was a petite local restaurant; when the food came out it was delicious. Another bonus about this place was the pricing.

Around sunset, we pitched our tent and began to wind down. This was my first camping trip, so I did not expect it to go perfectly. Before we fell asleep, we talked and listened to the creatures making noise in the night. At 1am, I woke up to rain hitting the tent and Aidan scrambling to put the cover on the tent. As we were getting soaked we accepted our fate and headed back to the car for the rest of the night.

Stopping at sheetz to dry off, we got to witness some locals in the area. After sitting in the car, we put the seats down and set up for our new sleeping arrangement. We drove back to the trailhead and slowly fell back asleep around 3am.

The next morning we got up and headed back up the trail once more to grab the rest of our tent.

About 10 minutes after leaving the trail, we got breakfast at this cute café, The Grove; it is a gem in Petersburg. I got an amazing Nutella bagel with a black coffee. The bagel made me ready for the drive back home. Another day, well spent.
